fingernails

For the uninitiated, if a Czech person gives you what appears to be a large fingernail, don't panic. It is probably a scale from their xmas carp. You should put it in your wallet and it will make you horribly rich. The alternative is that this Czech tradition doesn't actually work and you'll just end up with a fingernail in a wallet that smells of carp.

Hello,

I will be traveling from Prague to Krakow in mid April. Can you please suggest a website (in English) that will allow me to look at dates, times and prices? Also, is it better to book a ticket online before my trip, or buy a ticket in person the day of at the train station?

Thank you in advance.

Last minute trip (arriving Dec 30 for 5 nights), wife and I, and female friend - 60s - looking for centrally located accomodations - safe clean and as inexpensive as possible that might still be available at this late date. Thanks so much for your help!

Prague or Vienna

I have a chance to do a quick flight into Europe at the start of Feb and to spend a day and a bit in either Prague or Vienna. Does anyone having any burning suggestions about which city they'd choose, based on what there is to see and do in the middle of winter?

So, I thought the stories you hear about robberies on overnight trains were mostly rubbish, but a very weird thing happened to me last night on the Bratislava-Warsaw train (Czech part). This is partly to wonder if anyone had a similar experience, and partly a little warning. This is the 3rd time in 2 months I've caught this train - once couchette (no problems), once sleeper (no problems). (In addition to overnight trains all over the rest of the world - never had a problem.)

Last night, I got…

Christmas gifts

Hello all,
I've wrestled with purchasing gifts here in the US and lugging them to Prague only because I don't know what I'll find to buy when I get there. I'm pretty sure they'll have everything there that we have here. I'll be looking for bed clothing, robes, PJ's and slippers, men's sweaters, jeans. long johns, etc. Buy here and lug or buy there?

In a few months time I am planning on driving (in a leased car) from Salzburg, Austria to Prague, CZ for a couple of days stay. Is anyone able to enlighten me on what the requirements are for the border crossing in relation to cars going into the Czech Republic. What are the driving conditions like entering and exiting Prague. I don't intend using the car while in Prague.

Hello,
if I arrive to Prague by the 2nd of january do I have any chances to see the Christhmas market or it's going to be already closed?

I read somewhere that czechs celebrate the "Magic kings" the 6th of january like the Spanish and other latin countries do so this is my reason to keep a little bit of hope alight.

Thanks a lot.
