Hi everybody

Me and my partner are going to Prague and Budapest (one week each) in February. Accommodation has already been booked and paid for (Expedia), but we're trying to work out a budget for meals, transportation and sight-seeing. Which of the two cities is considered the more expensive from a tourist's point of view? I know this depends on a lot of factors (how long is a piece of string? ;-)), but any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

There isn`t much price difference. I used to live in Budapest and visited Prague in 2005 and in 2009. I found the prices for public transport, food, restaurants, beer slightly cheaper in Prague than Budapest. However the Hungarian currency is getting very weak right now, so this time Budapest prices will be cheaper I guess.

I agree.

There's not so much difference between the two that it would effect your budgeting. I think Budapest is slightly less expensive.

Good luck.

You'll actually find more variation in the cities themselves than between comparable areas of each. Food and drink right in the center of either will be much more expensive (generally) than food and drink in locals neighborhoods outside of the center.

Public transportation is nearly a negligible cost in either case. And both cities' centers are very walkable. I wouldn't use taxis in either city -- much more expensive than transport and a good way to get ripped off.

As AA has said away from the city centre in Prague things are considrably cheaper.Ok I live in the UK and to me prices in even the more expensive parts of Prague in equivelent standard places are cheaper than where i live. I cant comment on Budapest.Stay away from the main toursit spots and you can eat and drink fairly cheaply.

Having been to both places I found Budapest slightly cheaper.

czech republic in general is quite cheap, but there is A LOT of money in prague which drives prices up there (plus it is the world's most beautiful city in my op)

Food in both places substantially cheaper than in America and Western Europe, so have a good time!

Also, you might want to watch out for a few of the cons I have described here. Just to give you a heads up. (I should probably post this seperately, maybe later)

Hope this helps. :)
