looking to stay in Brno for 2 nights in May (probably 28th and 29th),looked at a few places but they seem quite expensive compared to Prague, not wanting a hostel,i am to old, too grumpy and too much a snorer to stay in shared accomodation.
any one got any suggestions for the area ,near the town center ( ie 10- 15 minutes walk away) would be most suitable but if it is further away but right beside a transport link i could cope with that.
appreciate any replies.

No one, I repeat, no one is too old for a hostel.

Look for a single room in a hostel or be prepared to rent a double for yourself. Some even have a bath insuite. It will be cheaper than a hotel and should meet your needs. Many of the hostel websites will let you search for single rooms.

My first trip outside to another country was closer to 45 years ago so I suspect we are contemporaries. BTW I last stayed at hostels in October 2011, one in Belgrade and another in Ljubljana. Clean places with reasonable bathrooms common rooms and kitchen facilities.

Jack, thanks for that link seems the have a single room so will try and book it.
Btw did you vist the Pegas hotel in Brno, going there for their beer heard it is very good ,but rooms are too expensive for me to stay in.
I am going to be in Prague from the 25th till 28th for the Beer festival and then head back there for the last 2 nights before heading home.

Craig, I haven't visited that one but did have a few in the Stopkova Plzener Pivnice just north of the main square which, of course, dispenses your beloved Pils beer in fine surroundings...the rest of my time was spent in more local places while in the, erm, 'custody' of a rather fine Brno lass...

ah,i understand,needs must i suppose.
I am going to be joined in Brno by and American friend and his wife and he has been in the Pegas before and told me it was a must stop but i do like to try a few places, might even do some tourist stuff as well.
might even find a nice middle-aged Brno lass for myself.

Hi Craig,
I stayed in Pension Beta in Prague on Saturday night and paid 420 crowns for a single room with breakfast. I'm also looking for a room in Brno so joined the Czech hostel organisation (for 200 crowns) which will give me a 10% discount. As Hostel Mitte - which looks like a very nice, tastefully renovated place, is 1000 Kc a night, with a 10% discount I will have paid for the card in 2 nights. Brno does seem to have expensive hotels compared to Prague - the big fairground (trade fairs) - and lack of competition is probably the reason.
If I'm around in May I'll buy you a beer.

Ah, that's a real shame, Craig...you do realise we can't talk to you here anymore, of course...))

been having a chat with a friend i will be meeting in Prague and travelling to Brno with, looks like we might just bite the bullet and stay at the Pegus hotel, this is city center and has a brewery in the hotel so not far to stagger to my bed, yeah bit more than I really want to pay but i got a really good deal for my Prague Hotel first 3 nights and then the last 2 nights at the hotel Dap at Dejvicka with breakfast for less than £150. it is an area i love and 3 of my favourite pubs within easy staggering distance one of which is only 150 yards away.
