Hi guys,

In March I am looking to head to Cesky Krumlov for a couple of days. I'm just looking for a couple of suggestions on a few things:

  1. I will be in Munich beforehand and I'm wondering if its possible to get there directly from Munich?
  2. Is it busy that time of year?
  3. Any suggestions on activities and hostels once I'm there?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Dave.

Hey Dave-
Cesky Krumlov is well worth the visit.
It is a small place (very nice though) and I would highly suggest taking a boat down the river. I was sick from food poisoning while doing it, but everyone else had a blast. the scenery is quite nice. You'll only need a weekend there in my opinion, but enjoy.

and no, march is still low season. I think high season starts in May or June.

  1. You don't say if you have a car or relying on public transport so difficult to answer that one...

  2. Low season but CK gets lots of visitors all year round...

  3. A pleasant short hike at sunset is up to Krizek Hill overlooking the town for a great view...there's some great cycling terrain around Lake Lipno & hiking in the environs of the Sumava National Park...if you have spare time you could pop over to Ceske Budejovice for an afternoon by bus or train...

Krumlov House is a fine hostel and Hostel 99 is also very good...

Cheers guys,

Funspirit are boat trips still available in low season?

WaterhazardJack I will be relying upon public transports, trains or coaches. There does not seem to be a direct train, so would it be possible to do in it in one day via Linz or Salzberg?

The hiking is something I will definitely do!

Can be done in a variety of ways...the most straightforward way to get there is by the shuttlebus from www.shuttlebus.cz which takes 4 hours...however, this is expensive at 1700CK or €68...

Some alternatives are to take the train to Linz, then the train to Ceske Budejovice and train or bus to CK...

Or the Student Agency Bus to Plzen, train to Ceske Budejovice and train or bus to CK...

There is another method that is cheap and very scenic but long and difficult for an outsider...involves taking the train from Munich to Passau, bus from there to Haidmuehle, walk across the border (2kms) to Nove Udoli and then the train from there to CK...this works out very cheap with a Bayern Ticket covering the train to Passau and bus to Haidmuehle but depends on a lot of connections and some infrequent services...

Hostel Postel in Cesky Krumlov is good.

Thanks for those ideas WaterhazardJack. Shuttlebus seems the best option for us as we are on a short trip. I will however look at the other options too.

I'll check out that hostel hkwoody. Thanks.
