Hello!
I will have an 11 hour stopover before catching another flight and I want to go to the city centre. I've visited airport website but I'm still confused. Can anyone advise me on the best transportation from the airport. What's the best mean? How much time does it take and where is the best place to get off?
Thanks for any info

Take the 119 bus to Dejvicka, transfer to the metro there and go 3 stops to Straromestska, that is just below the castle area ,you can then take a no22 tram back up to the castle ( 2 stops) or walk up the castle steps ,if you want to visit the Old town take the metro one more stop to Mustek its an easy walk from there.this should take about 40 minutes including changing from bus to metro, the 119 bus runs every 10 minutes or so. I think you can take a no 20 tram from Dejvicka to the castle ( the stop is very obvious) but I am not quite so sure of that route.
Buy a day ticket (110kc) and you can jump on and off buses trams and metros all day, just remember to validate the ticket on the first bus in the yellow machines.
you can get a ticket from the stand in both T1 and T2,you must have a ticket before you get on the bus ,fines are heavy if you don;t have a ticket.
hope this helps

Taxi is the quickest.... About €20.
Not the cheapest though.

Yes I would agree with Billy.
Taxi to Pohorelec / Strahov Monestry area. You could ask the taxi driver to take you to Strahov monestry and then have a walk down to the castle area and then follow the Royal route to the Old town, this way it is all down hill.
http://www.prague.net/the-royal-route
this explains it and if you do it in the reverse order to what is mentioned here you will cover a fair bit of the historic city in a few hours, loads of places on this route for food and drink.
You will finish up near the Municiple house and there is a metro nearby (Namesti Republiky) where you can get the metro back to Zilcin and take the 100 bus back to the airport (32kc ticket) or the metro one stop to Mustek and change to the Green line to Dejvicka and then the 119 bus from there,or you can get a taxi outside the Municiple house but make sure you agree a price with the driver back to the airport dont pay any more than 800kc from there 600-650Kc is near the mark.

Thanks a lot. Taxi is too expensive for me, I think I'll gor for a bus/metro. I've already been to Prague twice but the last time was in 1994 ... I just need to kill time between the flights without too much exploration and exhaustion and, of course, have a glass of good Czech beer. Do you happen to know any good (atmospheric) places in downtown area famous for good and affordable food (beer is good everywhere) and not that touristy?

I'm going to be in Prague on March 14 (so not as late as May) but I'm thinking of visiting Wrocław Beer Festival http://www.festiwaldobregopiwa.pl/english/ or/and Żatec festival http://www.docesna.cz/ at the beginning of September. If you ever consider going there, w might come across each other.

this will be my 4th year running at the Czech Beer Festival ,meeting up with some folk I met there before.
I would like to go to the Zatec Festival ,just the dates have never fitted in with work commintments (and thats what pays for the travelling).
hope you have a great time in Prague even if it is for only a few hours.
if you want to try several beers without having to drink lots of pints try this place,

a few minutes walk from Namesti Republicky ,you can get taster glasses (150ml) of lots of different beers they have about 30 on tap.Food in there is not that great a choice but snack type stuff, I have a review on that list I posted on the other thread
