Three of us are headed to south Dalmatia for a week of sunshine in September. Our highest priorities are swimming & lounging on the Adriatic, sitting in cafes, sadly for work-having an internet connection, beautiful art & architecture, and eating fish, more or less in that order.

What would you recommend as a happy medium for easy access to the beautiful city & people watching, with a peaceful, oceanside base?

We'd prefer not to have to drive. Feet, taxis, ferries, & buses are all better…

I am heading to Croatia mid-September, will spend 5-7 days , hitting Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar and maybe a day trip. I need hotel suggestions. I am single, 50 but an ex-Club Med G.O. so I don't want to be stuck with the golf set but also not into partying the night away. I am willing to pay up to US$225 a night but would prefer to pay $150. I'll be on foot / bus and like to walk (ex NYer) so location is important.

Any ideas would be welcome. Most places seem booked. Or horrendously…

I'm going to spend several days on the islands:
Hvar
Kornati
Korcula
Mljet
(not necessarily in that order and not necessarily on all of them)

I was planning to have a car during the whole stay in Croatia, but the question is whether it's smart (or even possible) to visit the above islands in a rental car?

I'm flying into Dubrovnik on 6th August and thinking about renting a car to drive up to Split.
Does anyone have any advice on driving in Croatia, or the roads ok? Would you reccomend just doing the journey by bus/ferry?

Thanks.

Hi,
I'm going to be making Zadar my base for 4 nights and am researching areas to stay in. It's really difficult to find a map with "neighborhoods" because I can only find google type maps. I would like to be close to the city center as we like lively areas. We'll be doing lots of daytrips to areas like Plitivice and possibly Paklencia. We would also like to take some day rips to the surrounding islands.

Can someone recommend a good area for me to look at? I've been looking at http://www.apartma

Hi all,

My husband and I have booked 10 days in Croatia in August. We're going to be arriving and leaving from Pula. The surrounding area looks gorgeous. We're particuarly excited about island hopping and crystal blue waters. We've been told that Hvar is absolutely fantastic but don't know if it will be worth the travelling there and back plus all the extra hassle arranging the travel will cause. We're really looking for a relaxing holiday. So, do you think it would be worth making the trip to…

I am flying in to Zagreb on 1 August and need to get to Split by midday on the 2nd. I would ideally like to take the night train, but is there any way to buy tickets from abroad other than through the raileurope website? It seems to have a pretty big mark-up on the regular ticket price. I would prefer not to wait until I arrive in Zagreb to buy tickets as I expect that on a Friday night in the height of summer the sleeper tickets may sell out in advance - is this correct? Thanks in advance…

We are driving down to Croatia with 6 children to camp. Last year we stayed near Porec and this time we would like to discover somewhere new. I was thinking of either /and Opatija and then Krk. Has anyone been to the Risnjak Park ? Is there anywhere good to camp near there. Last year the campsite had great entertainment in the evening and the kids would like somewhere like that for a few days. In Istria we had taken bikes but often the routes were on very busy roads . Are there any dedicated…

I was meant to do the Sail Croatia 7 day tour on 9th August - however due to a family circumstance i am having to leave europe earlier than planned. Sail Croatia have said if i can find someone to take over my ticket they can do a name transfer which means i would not lose my deposit (200 australian dollars)

The details of the tour sound amazing and i am so sad that i cant go, but more important things are happening back home in Australia that i need to address. You can see the tour details…

Hi I'm headed to Croatia from 12 days and am in dire need of itinerary advice from locals and fellow Croatian travelers. The main hitch is that we arrive in Zadar, then have to return to Zadar in the middle of the trip to pick up our friends. So we were thinking of staying around that area until we get them. From there we'll continue down South to Dubrovnik then go back up the coast. I'd like to hit Hvar on the end of our trip to avoid the expensive August rates. We like big cities, but we'll…
