A group of 4 of us are travelling from Venice to Zadar on the 28th for a festival in Petrcane, does any one know the the cheapest way to do this? I heard about boats but it is difficult to find out when they go and how much they are. Thanks.

Me and two friends are doing the same trip on the same day to go to Outlook-boats only go from Ancona which is quite far south of venice. It's possible to get buses but if you on the same flight as us (arrives 4ish) then it looks like will miss the last bus to Zadar. We are looking into renting a car but if not then stay overnight at either Trieste or Rijeka and get an early bus to Zadar. Sorry I'm not much help-we are in similar predicament. If you has any inspirational ideas then please let me know!!

You won't be able to make a connection to Croatia on the day so take a bus or train to Trieste and take the bus next morning to Rijeka.

There are catamarans from Venice to Istria (Pula, Porec, Rovinj) and the island of Losinj several times a week. You can find departure times on line.
From Pula thera are daily catamarans leaving at 7AM for Zadar (100HRK one way) arriving to Zadar around 11:30AM. The same catamaran makes stop at Losinj. This connection may require staying overnight en route, - consider this a bonus since all the above places are worth a stay, let alone a visit.

Though Ancona is a bit south from Venice as you remarked, it sits across the Adriatic from Zadar and there are daily ferry boat connections (6hrs) between the two. Ancona is well connected with Venice by train and you should be able to make ferry connection without much problem (depending on the day of the week the ferry departs An at different hour - check Jadrolinija on line ferry schedule).

Unless you decide to rent a car, both routes are more convenient and far more comfortable than traveling by bus.

Sorry you are going to miss the Electric Elephant festival going on this weekend in Petrcane - the best so far this summer.

If you are in a hurry, you may take the night train from Venice to Zagreb and a early morning bus from there to Zadar

thanks so much for the response thats really helpful. outlook is gonna b so great! Yes, electric elephant looked amazing as well. Our flight gets in at 9.25 at Treviso so we have a bit more time to play with. I looked into the catarmarans they seem very expensive, I think bus might be the cheapest option so we'll probably do that. You said you thought you'd miss the last bus, do you know when the buses go and how much they are? Are you going home from Venice as well? Sorry bout all the questions!
Also can anyone help on cheap accomodation in Petrcane? Guesthouses or something? I can only find a youth hostel in Zadar, which might be difficult to get back to late at night.
Thanks
