Curious about options for getting from Durres or Tirana in Albania to the Split area in Croatia without going via Italy. Any input will be appreciated!

Basically you just keep going along the coast!

Lots of buses and minibuses from Durres or Tirana to Shkodra
A couple of minibuses a day from Shkodra to Ulcinj
Buses along the coast via Bar, Budva, Kotor to Herceg Novi
A few buses daily from Herceg Novi to Dubrovnik
Lots of buses from Dubrovnik to Split; or a ferry, much slower, not every day of the week

See the Shkodra guide at www.inyourpocket.com for more about transport between Albania and Montenegro.
