Hi guys
I am going to Croatia summer next year and is looking for options to travel to Budapest for a weekend as well. What is the best price/time option for this trip via railway? Is an overnight train ticket the way to go? Airfare seems to be too expensive as well. The other option is car rental but I am not sure if I am up for crossing borders with a rented car etc.
Looking forward to a bit of advise.
Thanks!
The train or bus(es) are your best 2 options by far. Have a look at:
for your train timetables. Quite a few different options available. I've done the train between Budapest & Zagreb & back again several times. It's not an express, facilities on board were basic, but it didn't take forever.
Forget the car rental, you'll get stung for the 1way drop-off charge.
Flight.. I'll leave that to someone who's done it. I haven't.
My train left about 2pm, I was in Zagreb late evening, I think about 10.
You don't state where in Croatia you will be, so it's not ideal to mention too many routes, but I assume you are aware there is no train service in or out if Dubrovnik, although bus services are goid..
Happy travels.
Thanks so much for your informative reply. I apprciate it. Great. I will browse the link and see what times will suit us best. After some research i saw that the railway lines terminate from Zagreb at Split, but im sure we will be happy with the bus or boat cruises to Dubrovnik.
We want to spend most of our time in Dubrovnik and Split and perhaps Zadar as well and only pass through Zagreb on our way to Budapest.
What would you recommend in terms of days spend in each city if we are there for a two week holiday? The two weeks should include the weekend in Budapest. Is there something else we should include as well in our travels?
Thanks :)
Awesome thanks fo the info!
I will have a look at the train options for Split-Budapest and Zagreb-Budapest. The price is great, i was expecting it to be more.
Do you think its a good idea to fit in a 2 or 3 days in Budapest in a 2 week croatia holiday? Or are there other options like going over to Slovenia or Bosnia thats closer and still exciting?
