Hi everyone,

Just hoping to get some feedback on this itinerary. I'll be alone the first week, and then my sister will meet me in Split for the last two weeks. Anyway, thanks for your help!

Days 1-6 (9/20-9/25): arrive in Zagreb, side trips to Ljubljana/Bled, back to Zagreb
Day 7 (9/26, Saturday): fly from Zagreb to Split around noon
Day 8 (9/27): meet my sis in Split, hop on the 11 am ferry to Vis
Day 9 (9/28): hopefully visit the Blue Cave, if weather permits; if not, just hang out around Vis
Day 10 (9/29, Tues): catch the morning ferry to Hvar Town
Days 11-13 (9/30-10/2): hang out in Hvar; go back to Split either Friday night or early Saturday
Day 14 (10/3): pick up a rental car in Split at noon; visit Krka waterfalls and head to Zadar for the night
Day 15 (10/4): early morning head to Plitvice; spend a few hours there and then leave early afternoon to Trebinje in Bosnia (this’ll be our only drive over 2 hours)
Day 16 (10/5): Trebinje in the morning and then to Kotor (sleep there or head to Dubrovnik that night if we don’t really like Kotor)
Days 17-18 (10/6-10/7): head to Dubrovnik in the morning (drop off car on 10/6)
Day 19 (10/8): bus to Mostar in the afternoon (sleep there)
Day 20-21 (10/9-10/10): bus to Sarajevo; fly out late 10/10

I know it's aggressive, but we generally like to move. Also, the days we move around the most are when we have the rental car, so I figure we save time not having to deal with buses, etc.

Some questions:
1) Would anyone switch Vis for Brac? I like what I hear about Vis, but since it’s the beginning of low season, I worry Vis will be too quiet for my liking. I don't like a place when everything's closed and we're the only ones around.
2) Also, anyone know how the weather usually is for visiting the Blue Cave in late September?
3) I just picked Trebinje because I figure we need one long drive to get from Plitvice to southern Dalmatia, and Trebinje seems charming. But if anyone has advice for another place to stop over, let me know.
4) It should be fine to drive to Bosnia and Kotor with the rental car, right? It’ll still be returned to a Croatian city.

Thanks again!

Day 15 won't work. Driving north to Plitvice, seeing the waterfalls, than turning back and driving all the way to Trebinje is way too much for a day. I spent in Plitvice only 3-4 hours and was quite satisfied, but most people spend at least a day and don't seem to regret it. It's a very crowded spot and it's better to see it early in the morning or late afternoon before the hordes of daytrippers descend on it.

The Bay of Kotor deserves more than a day. Actually I would probably skip Trebinje and drive straight to Montengro. I haven't been to Trebinje, but it doesn't look very interesting.

Flying from Zagreb to Split is nonsense. It's a short-haul flight that is easy to avoid. There are frequent buses, using the motorway get you there in a few hours or you can take one of the couple of trains if you need more comfort and prefer trains(slower than the bus).
