Hello,

I'm hoping some veteran travelers could give my wife and I some advice, as we're noobies to this part of Europe. We'll be traveling from Switzerland (near Geneva) to Croatia June 7-15, to see Plitvice and stay on an island off Split for a few nights. We won't be spending any time in Switzerland on this trip.

The most basic question right now is whether to fly or drive. There are flights Zurich-Zagreb on Croatia Air, but they're quite expensive (about $400 USD rt pp -- though I haven't yet priced out with the discounts like RyanAir or...uh...the other one). So now we're considering renting a car - which open some interesting opportunities like the ferry from Croatia to Italy and driving through Northern Italy, Austria, Slovenia, etc. We'd even be open to renting a smaller camper van if that's feasible but we're just as happy in B&Bs.

Any suggestions or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nemo

The drive would be great if you had more time, but I agree with #1: there's little point in driving when you'd hardly have any time to stop and would be losing days of your limited time in Croatia.

easyJet has direct flights from both Geneva and Basel to Split that would work well with your itinerary. Unfortunately, it is now so close to your travel dates that it's probably too late to get cheap tickets, even on a low-cost carrier like easyJet, so it does look like you can expect to pay about 400 USD per ticket.
