Hi, we are staying in Hvar in July/August 2008.
We are flying into Split and want to get to the harbour and get a boat across to Hvar Town (Hvar)

Timetables online suggest ferries only go once a day - can anyone shed any light on this?

Also, how easy is it to get from Split airport to Split harbour? Is taxi the best route and if so how much does this cost?

Thanks!

No need for a taxi, there are frequent buses from Split airport to the old town/harbour.

There are usually a couple of ferries a day to Hvar, though you may need to go to the port at Stari Grad rather than Hvar Town depending on the sailing times that suit you best. Buses meet up with the ferries so it is easy enough to get to Hvar Town. Jadrolinja is the big player but there are often others that only run over the summer months so don't show up on web searches. The bus from Split airport drops you off right by the ferry ticket booths so if you are planning to have a day or two in Split, then I recommend scouting out the sailing times first and working around that.

[http://www.korculainfo.com/ferries/catamaran-korcula.htm] Further to my post, here is a link to the timetable for the daily cat I mentioned that runs through the summer months only. It shows last years times but from memory it was the same in 2006 so one would assume it'll be the same again this year. It stops at Hvar Town.

from airpt; the Croatia Air bus waits for all flights of THEM.
OR walk out of airport parking/100 mtrs=''main'' narrow road, go to LEFT nto town, find local busstop and wait (15/20 mins), normal citybus, pay driver. MUST have kuna for either bus to pay!
ALL buses end at some square right next to train/bus/boat stations.
