Hi,

My husband and I will be driving from Split to Dubrovnik. This is almost a 5 hour drive. Can anyone recommend a place we can stop to cut the trip short and perhaps stay overnight before we continue our drive to Dubrovnik?

I welcome your suggestions and greatly appreciate what you can share with us.

Thank you.

When is this trip?

The coast road is a lot different in winter than in summer and so are the coastal villages. There are plenty of beach resorts along the way.I guess Makarska is the most logical, even if it is nothing special IMHO.Most foreign travellers either do the trip straight, without stopping,or go via the islands.

Again, very different depending on season. In summer it will be packed with tourists..in winter the opposite.

Hi Lucapal! Thank you for your response. We will be driving to Dubrovnik from Split on OCt. 14. Our plan was to drive straight but since this is our first trip to Croatia I thought of checking in with those familiar with the area to see if there are any interesting places along the way that is worth stopping and visiting. Do you suggest that we just drive straight to dubrovnik since you mentioned that Makarska is nothing special? Again, thank you!

I would do it straight, that time of year.

Of course there are lots of small places along the way that I don't really know...may be someone else can suggest an interesting place to stay on the way.

Thank you lucapal for taking time to respond. I think we will just go straight to Dubrovnik despite the 5 hour trip.

Hello lighthouseplace,
as lucapal suggested to you, Makarska is nice, you can see a lot, (perhaps nature park Biokovo- if you are that type or center), or if not, than you can go furthure cca 25km and there you will find Omis,
small nice town, surronded by river, sea and mountains. Really nice to see but dont expect somethig "crowd", its really small quiet town where you can really enjoy!
If you are looking for a night life than i need to admit, Makarska is way better than Omiš.
And need to say, in case u decide to sleep there book your accomodation before (Im living there so i know how it goes :D) cause there is a lot apartments but closed in this period of the year.
In case i can help you more, please feel free to contact me :)
Have a nice holidays ;)

Hey Lighthouseplace,
Yeah,,,,its true...rain all week... But dont worry cause rainy days in this part of Croatia are usually warm days. in these days you will probably also get some wind named Jugo,,,its warm wind, not strong at all.
So my suggestions are to take some winter clothes, coats are not really neccessary,,,it will be rain but not that cold.,,,(as they said)
Hope so my respond will help you... And sorry for mistakes, i am on phone :D
