Hi, I will be travelling to southern Dalmatia and have a few questions:
1. I would like to ask you, if anyone has detailed touristic map of the whole Neretva delta area in digital form as it is here - www.neretva.info but in bigger size.
2. Also I need to go to this area (preferably to Ploce) from Makarska riviera (Podgora) by bus. Can you recommend me some good connections ?
3. When I will be there, can you recommend me some touristic paths with beautiful views (I'm interested in landscape photography) in delta area ?
Thank you in advance,
Peter.

wow
you actually want to go to Ploce! :)
just that..it's possibly the ugliest place of all the dalmatian coast..!but if you have a specific mission (like landscape photography) I guess the delta is not so bad either. But try staying in some other smaller place, it's a little nicer.
Unfortunately I can't give you any info on the paths, just to tell you that there is a very good bus connection between Makarska and Ploce, and all the buses pass through Podgora. There is at least one bus per hour. Just stand on the bus stop at Podgora and stop the bus when you see it. You can buy the ticket on the bus. It's a 1 hour ride aproximately, or even less.

LOL, Loonatonk!
The Croatian stretch of the Neretva-delta is not that special, but the Herzegovinan stretch is much nicer! Places of interest include Pocitelj, the Kravica-waterfall, Medugorje, Blagaj and several other places. The national tourism board of Bosnia-Herzegovina made an excellent promotional videoclip, entitled 'Enjoy Life Bosnia and Herzegovina', which can be viewed on YouTube. They cut it into several shorter pieces which they also put on YouTube (confusing), but the longest one (4m30s I believe) is the one you're after. There are two good maps of this area from Freytag & Berndt that you may want to have a look at: one map of the Croatian coast and the other of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Alternatively, you may want to take the ferry from Ploce to Trpanj on the Peljesac-peninsula, which is also very beautiful.

I unfortunately have not been to the delta region, but in Peljesac, the area around Ston is really stunning, even more so in bad weather (steam rising off the oyster beds with mts in background).

Hi all,
loonatonk: I don't plan to hang in Ploce too much, I only want to go there as it looks to me like a good start point to hiking in delta area. Thank you for the information about bus connections but I am not sure about one thig - bus coming from Makarska to Ploce don't stop in Podgora bus stop ? Do I have to stop it ? :)
ReinierNL: The Bosnian side looks very nice but my problem is I don't have a passport. I'm only travelling on my ID and Bosnia and Herzegovina requires passport to enter.
Thank you for your map suggestions, I will certainly look closer to some.
Veta: The area around Ston looks amazing, but if I want to go there I need to cross B&H borders and as I said before, unfortunately, I don't have passport. I was in Dubrovnik once, but it was through local travel agency and they marked I didn't have the passport. We crossed the borders with no problems. We got minibus and no one was controlled on borders, only chauffeur told something to officer. Do you think if I will be on the board of a local bus which runs to southern parts of Dalmatia I will be ok ? When I need to get out if I want to go to Ston ? What about the connection from Makarska (Podgora) ? Thank you.
Anyone who have been to delta area and would like to share some thoughts ?
well, the point is there no any actual bus station, just stops like the urban buses have. The bus only stops if there is someone getting off there or someone waving for the bus to stop to get on. Some of them might not even stop, if it's some fancy company, because their official stops between split and dubrovnik are only omis, makarska and ploce, but 98% of them do stop. You can check the timetable here
