Hi all

My boyfriend and I are planning to visit Croatia 20 – 28 September from UK.

1) Money
- I am planning to get Croatian Kuna out via my UK Visa debit card, which I have never used outside of UK as yet. I assume the ATM cash part is OK, but what about using it in shops/hostels for purchases? Or do they just prefer cash? I just need to know how much roughly to take out in one go to avoid getting hit with cash transaction fees.

- I also have an Australian credit card – do you think the good exchange rate of AUD will work in my favour?
- Would it be useful to bring any Euros with us?

2) Bus Dubrovnik to Zagreb via Bosnia-Hercegovinia

We are flying into Pula, making our way down the coast and south to Dubrovnik and then flying out of Zagreb. To make our way from Dubrovnik to Zagreb is going to be a pretty long journey (I hear the nigh bus is horrid), but given that we would have done a lot of the central area, was thinking maybe we could go via Bosnia-Hercegovinia – has any one done this before? and could any one suggest a good stop over in Bosnia that might be worth checking out, but still convenient enough to get to Zagreb? Any other suggestions of splitting this long trip up?

Going through Bosnia is a good idea if you want to see a bit of Bosnia, but not as a way of saving time/distance. You could get a bus to Sarajevo from Dubrovnik (about 6 hours), ideally with a stop in Mostar on the way. See a bit of Sarajevo, then take a train from Sarajevo to Zagreb, which takes a full day or night. The problem is that you only have a week to start with so a few days in Bosnia will leave you with a rushed trip through Croatia. As #1 says, it may be worth checking out flights with Croatia Airlines. Or you could take a bus as far as Split and a train (day or night) from there.
