Wondering whether 2 nights is too much or not enough on mljet island. We have a 10 day trip, beginning in Dubrovnik and ending in Split - island hopping. We're looking for a balance between moving islands and staying put to really absorb. We'll be staying on the west end of mljet (but arriving at Sobra) - it is one island that I just don't have a sense of yet, aside from its natural beauty and National Park. Thanks for any input!
There is only natural beauty in Mljet, nothing else. The villages are nondescript, the beaches too, and there is no nightlife whatsoever. But it has, for my taste, more natural beauty than any of the other islands I have visited on the Dalmatian coast. It is simply a place to relax and do gentle hikes while taking in the landscape. It's really for you to decide how long you can do that for. I know we spent close to a week there and enjoyed every minute. But on a 10-day trip, I imagine you'll want to see as much as possible, especially given the beautiful towns there are in the area. I would think 2 nights there will give you plenty of time to see the National Park and enjoy the peace and quiet. If you just wanted to see the landscape, but were not in the mood for R&R, one night could do it.
Also I want to add that I heard Mljet got a bit overrun by day-trippers in July and August. The peace and quiet I was referring too would be off-season (or, in summer, early in the morning and late in the afternoon)
