How rocky is the coast in Croatia?

We are going to Split, Dubrovnik, Hvar and Korcula and hope to have a swim in the sea most days (as well as doing lots of sightseeing). How rocky is the coast in these areas? I know there are sandy beaches such as Lumbada in Korcula but other days we might just want to take a quick swim somewhere closer to the town. I was wondering whether it would be useful to have some swimming shoes (such as in the link below) or whether we can get by fine with just normal sandals and flip-flops? Are these sort of shoes readily available in Croatia as I haven't seen any in the UK (none at Blacks and Millets etc)?

It's rocky - meaning the coast often drops down steeply without much sand. Usually from the rocky beaches you can easily wade or jump in. No reason to buy any fancy shmancy special shoes - simple plastic ones are available locally if you must. I prefer rock beaches - better snorkelling and no sand in your clothes/ears/food. Bring something soft to sit/lie on though. Near Hvar the Pakleni islands have nice (rocky) coves, near Dubrovnik Lopud island has a nice sand beach, and northwest of Korcula town there's one too within cycling distance.

Most beaches have small or medium pebbles. I always use cheap water sandals there. There are sandy beaches too. Have a look at http://croatia-beaches.com/

Your feet get used to pebbles and rocks after 3-4 days. It's harder to adjust to pebbles than to rocks, though.

It might be uncomfortable in the beginning, but it will be better, surely better than wearing anything like in the link you provided, at least for me.

If you really can't stand it, then you get something like this almost everywhere for a few cents (might not be the most fashionable choice, though):

There's a rule: the rockier the place, the more refreshing the water (but watch out for occasional sea urchins).

just out of Dubrovnik by the Pillar gate (1km) there is a nice sandy/pebbles beach. Easy to find, you see it from the road.
