Hiya,

Me and my best friend (both 21 year old females) have booked flights to Dubrovnik returning from Split 25/7/13-7/8/13. We are both not the most clued in on travelling in general, and neither of us know much about Croatia!!

Looking for general advice and help with an itinerary.

We wanted to do a bit of island hopping and visit some nice sites such as the krka national park maybe? We wanted to go to plitvice lakes but they seem a bit far away.

We are looking to do it quite cheaply so staying in hostels and/or campsites- any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for your time and help, literally any advice would be so appreciated!!

Will you be renting a car or taking public transport?

Accommodations are rarely a problem in this region as there are lots of people at every bus station, train depot and ferry port offering accommodations. Just be sure that you know how far from the center of town you are willing to be.

Split is good for a night or two. Trogir is also nice. Sibenik makes a good daytrip if you have a car. If not, it or Zadar are a good base for seeing Krka National Park.

Campsites never make sense unless you have a car so if you aren't planning to rent a car, ditch the camping gear as the campsites are outside of town and bus service often isn't great.

There is lots of information here on the LP website if you look in the destinations section. Also check out the website of the Croatian Tourist organization.

Thanks very much vidtaneja, will take a look.

Ruth, we will be using public transport. Would you recommend waiting on the accomodation then?

Will have a look at those places... agree about the camping, probably won't work out but was just a thought!

Thanks, Helen

You don't need to book accommodations in advance if you aren't terribly fussy. Lots of rooms for rent and lots of people offering them at bus stations, ferry ports, etc.
