Hi Everyone,

I was hoping you could give me some advice regarding the ease of ferry travel between Dubrovnik-Mljet-Korcula-Hvar-Split in May. I'm thinking of staying 1 night on Mljet, 2 nights Korcula and 2 nights Hvar before heading onto Split. I found the explantion of travel in the LP guide very confusing. So, is this route possiable?, are there restrictions on the days that you can travel?

Finally, I am having a difficult decision between Hvar and Korcula. Do I split my time between the two or stay in place? I think I read that it is cheaper the stay in one place for four nights.

Thanks
M

Yes, check the timetable and let that make your decision.
Hvar and Korcula are somewhat similar, in that there is a small town and a large island--all quite beautiful. I'd pick whichever one works out best schedule-wise because both are wonderful. Some places do charge more for stays of less than 3 days, but you can usually get around that. You can bus to Korcula, so that may help.

Not knowing where you are from I can say that I am from the US, travel independently and never make reservations ahead of time for accomodations or travel. I just returned from Croatia and found it easy to get around and assume that May and October (when I was there) would be similar. I went from Dubrovnik to Mljet hoping to go on to Korcula but was out of season so had to return to Dubrovnik. You cannot do Mljet from Drubrovnik in a day you have to spend the night on Mljet. Either way, I recommend Hvar highly. Here are a few things I found in Hvar. Get up to the castle early in the morning and watch the world awaken. Rent a boat and tour the islands for a day. A great way to see things you would not normally see. Stay away from the restaurants situated on the main square. Go around to the back side of the monastery and look for Miss Piggy's. Only locals and good food and drink at a fraction of what you would pay in the "tourist" places around the square. It's best to use the LP as a guide and not as a bible. Hvar is well worth spending time in and there are numerous soba's that can be obtained on budget...knowing German would not be a disadvantage.

Thanks everyone. I have had a look at the timetables and have worked out most of the itinerary. The only thing I can't seem to find is the ferry between Mljet and Korcula...is there one in May???
