Hi, Just booked a flight from the UK in and out of Split (two holidays this year, my graduation present to myself!) I arrive in Split Airport at around midday at the end of August and plan to get straight on the fast catamaran to HvarTown and stay for three nights, then on to Dubrovnik for 5nights. (I then go onto Montenegro for 6 nights and Bosnia for 9 nights and will post on the appropriate websites for those as their websites are look bare in comparison to Croatia!) Finally back to split for 4 nights.

  1. The only accomodation I have booked for the trip is in Hvar town. I am travelling alone and would like to know the availability of accomodation for a single person, for Dubrovnik and Korcula. i just want a simple, clean room (normally stay in hostels so my own room is a luxury, so didn't mind sharing bathrooms!). The prices seems to be based on two people sharing and most accomodation online I have seen is catered towards couples. Any recommendations? I have to be near transport links as I have mobillity problems (I walk with a stick). Any idea of the average price? Should I join the scrum at the ferry port or am I taking a chance?! I will probaley stay in a hostel in Split, any recommendations?

  2. The only catamaran times to Hvar Town I have found that leave Split are the ones that leave around 1700. I have read here that there is one at 1500, which would probaley suit me better. Which company is that with and do they have an online schedule? Does it go onto Korcula as the one leaving around 1700?

  3. Are there left luggage facilites in the ferry/boat port in Hvar?

  4. Leaving Korcula for Dubrovnik is it best to go by bus or ferry and is there anywhere online where I can access the timetables?

  5. Dubrovnik to Montenegro: Is it easier to get to Herceg Novi by bus and change if I plan to base myself in Kotor? Or is the direct bus now a bit more frequent?

Thanks all, you lot are great. Now you know why I had to break my questions down on other forums. Overload!

  1. Even though it is high season--I think maybe you will be okay since you say late August and you can wait to get a room upon arrival. Most of the places you see online are more expensive, and few places bother to advertise rooms for singles. You can either meet someone upon arrival to rent from or go to the tourist office and book a room. That way you can make sure of the accessibility and get a better rate.
I'd go with just meeting someone as you arrive in Korcula, but in Dubrovnik, I would take the bus to old town from the ferry port and head to a tourist office to book there.

  2. Since you will already have had a ferry ride, I suggest the bus. I love the scenery between Korcula and Dubrovnik--the Peljesac peninsula. There is a daily early morning bus--verify the times when you get there.

  3. Here is a bus schedule from Dbv, but verify these times!

Hi...I went to Split, Hvar town and Korcula in July 2006....in Split I stayed at the Split hostel (www.splithostel.com, vey nice, clean, the facilities were brand new back then, right in the center of Diocletian palace, friendly staff....cost me around 15 or 17 euros per night).

As for you question number 3, I don't remember any luggage storage when arriving by boat to Hvar...when I left I had to leave my backpack in the hostel, walk around, and the go back to get it when my boat arrived.

One more thing...4 nights seem a lot for Split to me...I was there 1 day and a half and practically saw everything there was.....maybe you could consider checking another nearby island..

cheers..

I forgot one thing...in Korcula town I couldn't find any hostel, but I stayed in a room I booked from one of the guys that greet you once you arrive on the boat....it was very clean, within walking distance from the harbor and was around 12 or 13 euros....By the way, both in Hvar Town and Korcula check the tourist office for information about the small nearby islands, you can take a day-trip there; the beaches are awesome....

Roco.

Thanks for all your advice all. Hadn't considered a bus from Korcula to Dubrovnik, has thrown something else into the mix! Will definately try to stay in split hostel, as it gets a bit lonely staying in rooms all the time if your a single traveller! Have decided to add Plitvice in my itinery so will mean less time in Split, which is a shame but have to cut back somewhere. Cheers all.
