Hi, I'm a female, early 20s, looking to travel to Croatia in June. I'll be at Milan on 20th June, and looking to spend 21st June to 27/30th June in Croatia, with a flight back to London at the end. I'm Asian and rather petite in size, I am wondering if it's safe to travel alone? If I travel from Milan by train, what city in Croatia should I go to and does anyone know of any information on the train? I heard there are no direct lines and I would have to go through Slovenia and change?

I'm flexible with my plans although I will definitely like to visit Plitvice National Park (and perhaps spend a night there) and some beaches/seaside towns, perhaps Brac, Split, Dubrovnik, or anywhere quiet and peaceful. I'm not looking to cover a lot of place and I plan to take a relaxing and slow trip, by public transport, and accommodation can be budget for me (no need for nice hotels, just a place to spend the night will do), since I'll mostly like to take some time for myself and enjoy nature and scenery. However, I do not think I will be able to handle true backpacking, and I tend to not enjoy myself when carrying heavy things; I prefer walking light, so it'll be great if I don't have to spend my entire day with my backpack.

If you have any suggestions or routes I can take, places I can go, information on public transport, getting to/from Plitvice National Park, do let me know, thank you! Of course, if you will be going to Croatia around that time, I'll be glad to meet up as well!

You can take a train from Milan to Trieste, splitting this journey by taking a train to Venice first and another to Trieste is sometimes cheaper. www.trenitalia.com
From Trieste, the bus is easily the best way to travel into and around Croatia. Depending on what you want to see, you can go to Rovinj, Pula, Rijeka in a short time. www.autostazionetrieste.it www.pulainfo.hr

If you want to do as much as possible by train:
Milan - train - Gorizia - citybus - Nova Gorica - train - Ljubljana - train - Zagreb - bus - Plitvice - bus - Zadar - Split etc.
Timetable: Milano C dp 8.05 - Gorizia/Nova Gorica - 13.17/14.10 - Ljubljana 17.10/18.35 - Zagreb ar 20.53

Have you thought about taking a ferry? Train to Venice, then ferry to Pula, maybe?

I think there are bus day tours to Plitvice from the bigger cities in Istria. We rented a car and spent the day there, and it really seemed like options for overnight accommodations were limited (though of course I didn't spend the night so I may be wrong) and there wasn't much to do at night, so you might want to think about making it a day trip.

I'd recommend taking a ferry to an island if you want relaxation - Dubrovnik can be fairly hectic in tourist season, but Mali Losinj was very relaxing for us.

Hi,
I'd surely suggest visiting central and southern Dalmatia not only for its exquisite cuisine but for its stunning natural beauty of indented coast and breathe-taking mountain Biokovo.(Split,Makarska riviera,Brac,Korcula,Hvar,Dubrovnik).Good thing you are coming in off-season cause it can get hectic in July or August.
Should you need a low-budget place to stay don't hesitate to drop a line.

A friend of mind did it last year. Solo Asian girl too, she even did some couchsurfing! I think you wont get into any problem there.
