Hi,

I am hoping to go to Croatia for a week or two next summer and want to explore the islands. Would anyone recommend a boat trip? I'm going with my sister, both in late 20s. We want something that is mostly chilled and relaxing with good food, fun of course (but not mad!), an opportunity to see beautiful places and explore different islands.

I was thinking of going from Split to Dubrovnik but if anyone has any better suggestions that would be great. From there, I'll meet another friend and go through Bosnia into Montenegro. If anyone has done this route, I'd welcome any advice!

Thanks a lot!

I'd suggest Split > Hvar > Korcula > Dubrovnik. Paklinski Islands off Hvar make a nice day trip with 3-4 swimming stops. Avoid stepping on rocks as there are black sea urchins. Use the gangplank on the boat to shore. Its painful and time consuming to pluck out the spikes with tweezers. Budva in Montenegro had a lot of them too so use the T shaped pier for swimming. The water is deep and no chance of stepping on any! Did not happen to me but saw other tourists who did stand on them.

Hello...
i would like to help you but i need to have some more specific questions or at least answers on my questions. :)
For example, are you coming by your own car (you will need ferry and there are not available for every island)? Would you like to be situated in Split and go every day on different islands (cause in case of that u can get some excursions from split on traditional boats which are visiting 2-3- islands every day with some free time on each and lunch included in the price,,,, cca 200-300 kn per a head) or you would like to move every day on different and stay there? (in this case you need to be careful and book accommodation like NOW cause in top of the season; july or august i am 1000% sure you will not find free accommodation.
Only thing i would suggest you like now is to stay in Split because there is main marine so you can reach every island from there but to help you i need answers on these questions.
Feel free to contact me :)

Have a nice day!

I'm also thinking of visiting the coast in early May and I'm torn between doing a boat trip or just renting an Airbnb on one of the islands and island hopping on our own.

Island hopping is very nice. Try to book accommodation 1-2 days in advance. I just turned up at the travel agents in Hvar and Korcula and they recommended pensions for me same day. I was approached in the street in Dubrovnik. The room was quite expensive (over 600 kuna) but had good air con and was spotlessly clean
