Hi,
My girlfriend and I are heading to Dubrovnik on the 27th of August and staying there till Thursday the 30th of August.
My question is what would you consider to be the best way to get to Hvar on Thursday the 30th of August?
I have been told that a ferry takes 6hrs or we could get a coach halfway then a ferry the rest.
Is this correct?
Which do you think we should go for? I really can’t decide!!!!!
Regards,
Alan

1) Bus to Stari Grad, ferry to Split, bus from Split to Dubrovnik
2) Ferry from Hvar Harbour to Split, bus from Split to Dubrovnik
3) Taxi to Sucaraj, ferry from Sucaraj to Drvenik, bus from Drvenik to Dubrovnik
and if it's the right day (ferry goes twice a week)
4) Bus to Stari Grad, ferry to Dubrovnik

Sorry.
I think you are confused.
I am starting off in Dubrovnik, going to Hvar then heading to split.
I just need info on getting from Dub to Hvar!
Regards,
Alan

Stari Grad is the place where the ferry arrives in Hvar, a short bus ride to Hvar grad.
First you must make sure the ferry operates on the day you wish to travel (jadrolinija website), then you must choose whether you prefer a long ferry ride (more than 6 hours) or a 4.5 hour bus ride, then a 2 hour ferry ride followed by a short bus ride. I would prefer the bus ride because--as gorgeous as that ferry ride is--I go absolutely crazy that long on a ferry. It's just a matter of preference.
I took the ferry from Dubrovnik to Hvar last month. In June there were only 2 ferries a week and one of them happened to be on Thursday. But the timetable might change for the high season. I enjoy the ferry more than the bus; views are much better in my opinion. But that is a personal preference; from the bus you see things more up close. Buses to Hvar town wait for you on the dock in Stari Grad. The bus ride is pretty scenic and lasts under half an hour.
If you take the ferry, please note that the restaurant is only open around lunch time, not cheap and very crowded. I had the impression most people in the restaurant made restaurant reservations with their booking. It's a sit-down restaurant with table service. There's a bar on board too, but the only food it serves is a ham and cheese sandwich. There's no shop on board. So better pack your own lunch.
