We are thinking of a 2 centre trip for our honeymoon in September and above was suggested. We wanted beach for a few days and a city. Does anyone else recommend above? If so, what is cost of living like as we are on a budget? Any accommodation recommendations? If not here any other suggestions?
thanks

i would definitely recommend korcula and Dubrovnik, Korcula is gorgeous and a lot quieter and less touristy than dubrovnik and split. While in Korcula we hired our own little boat for around €50 for the day and went "island hopping" in search of our own private island- i would highly reccommend this!
i would also recommend Dubrovnik over split as your "city" option. It has bags more character, better nightlife and is stunningly beautiful!

As for accommodation there is loads of private accommodation around and it is quite reasonable (approx 20-30€ p/p a night as far as i can remember). We stayed with the Dubrovnik Youth Service which places you in a house somewhere in Dubrovnik, three of us shared an apartment complex which was lovely and within walking distance of the town which we booked through DYS. You can find this through hostelworld.com.

An hour north of Dubrovnik, Lopud island is a very romantic place to stay for a few nights. No cars, nice sandy beach, relaxed atmosphere, daytrips to other islands nearby. See www.lopud.eu for guesthouse options.

I stayed in Korcula for a week last summer at about $30 per night in a nice private house overlooking the harbor. Prices were a bit higher in Dubrovnik. I recommend both but I preferred Korcula for a quiet, leisurely holiday. Dubrovnik got 7 cruise ships in port one day I was there, old town was packed with tourists. Korcula gets more charter boats, it's smaller and has better swimming at the base of the city walls.

I'm really fond of Korcula. You can reach it easily from Dubrovnik via ferry or bus. I like the restaurants there better, too.
It gets its fair share of visitors as well, but never felt as crazy as Dubrovnik to me. To get to the best beaches, you'll need to rent a car or do a fair amount of walking plus catching buses, but there are some easily reached beaches also. Check out

Other options are Mljet and the Elafiti islands.

I imagine you want to pick a special place to stay--certainly with a view. Check out the sticky for links to search for Dubrovnik accommodations. How long will you have overall?

I thought Croatia was up there with one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited and woudl really recommend for a honeymoon. Dubrovnik is definately the best choice for a city. It is stunning and so romantic. I didnt want to leave and if i ever get round to tying the knot would love to do so there. You will have the medieval city vibe here but there are also rocky beaches also so you will get both. but during the day it is overun with cruise ship daytrippers. Whwn they have lef it is heavenly.
Korcula was quite quiet - very nice town and island and fine for few days - but if you wanted a little bit more as regards nightlife, Hvar town on Hvar island is recommended. I would go for Dubrovnik and Hvar if it was me, second choice Korcula but only becuase I like a place with a bit more buxx at night. There are plenty of budget options everywhere. Dubrovnik is not cheap if you are going for a hotel, so you may want to consider renting an apartment for w few days, These are usually located better near the old town than most of the hotels. Korcula was very cheap as regards accommodation. We stayed in a beautiful apartment with views of the harbour and the town and only 5 mins walk from the centre for €40 per night for the modern new apartment. Hvar we slashed out on a harbourside hotel with views and I think it was about €55 for the hotel room per night.
