I'm going to spend a couple of days in Split in early June and like to do a day trip to Hvar (town). The direct fast ferry doesn't help much as the ealiest departure from Split is at 11.30 am while the latest departure from Hvar is at 1.45 pm, at least with Jadrolinija, but I think it's the only operator on that route isn't it?
The Split - Stari Grad ferry has a much more convenient timetable for a day trip, but I don't have a clue how to get from Stari Grad to Hvar town. Are there regular busses and are they reliable i.e. to catch the 5.30 pm sailing back to Split? How much time do I have to calculate for the bus ride?
Any other ideas how to get to Hvar for a day? I've seen tour operators offering day trips from Split, but they often include lunch, a guided tour and other features that I don't need and therefore they are quite expensive. All I want is to go there, walk around a bit, have lunch, walk around again, have a coffee in the sun and go back.

btw. anybody else in Split from May 30th to June 4th? drop me a line if you'd like to meet up for a drink or dinner or excursion or so

There is also a catamaran line running in June, direct to Hvar town:

Hey, I just wanted to say that me and my friends also went there. We booked online Hvar & Pakleni islands one day excursion on www.daytripsfromsplit.com, came into the office two weeks ago, their staff (Sugaman Tours) escorted us to the speedboat. It was awesome!! We're definitely doing another one day excursion from them next year when we come back to Croatia! :-) *****
