My hubby and I are travelling for Croatia on 25th Sept - 10th October, flying to Pula and out of Zadar. We were hoping to do some island hopping (Krk, Cres, Losinj, Rab, Pag are nice sounding options), however guide books indicate that ferries only run between these islands in the summer until Sept. So I am slightly worried about not being able to make it to these islands, or at least get stranded on one!

Can anybody shed some light on the ferry situation please - will there still be a service in early Oct? Surely the locals need to get around still?

Also do you know what we can expect weather wise?

Any recommendations of cheap - mid range accommodation and must see/do in Pula, Zadar and the above islands would also be much appreciated.

Thanks!

The only line that terminates end September is catamaran connecting Pula via Losinj to Zadar (4hrs). See splittours web site.

Other than that all islands are connected to the mainland year round, but ferries and/or catamarans obviously don't run as frequent as in the summer. Thus Jadrolinija website lists ferry schedule only through Sept and off season schedule is not posted yet.
You can reach Cres/Losinj (there is a tiny bridge between the two) via a ferry from Porozine/Istria or via ferry from Krk - several times daily. Krk is connected to mainland by bridge. From Losinj there is a car ferry to Zadar (6hrs) with stops at several islands along the way. Jadrolinija runs catamaran year round between Rijeka, Rab and Novalja on island Pag. In addition Rab can be accessed by ferry; Pag can be accessed via bridge from Zadar. Obviously, there are possibilities but it will require flexibility on your part and lot of planning. For weather conditions see reply to thread below.
