Croatia highlights for 2 week tour in September

I would add at least one day to Split. Interesting city plus there are the attractions of Trogir and Salonae

Croatia is a very fun place to go - fantastic beaches, beautiful towns, food is alright and it is not expensive. Not yet, at least.

I spent 3 days in Dubrovnik - it's good length. I had a very relaxing time there, going to the beach during the day and spending time in the beautiful fortified city center in the evenings.

1 day and 1 night in Split is more than enough - you'll get a nice overview of the city and then be ready to enjoy more of the country's beautiful views and beaches. I personally used Split as a port to go to Hvar - it's a beautiful island, very relaxing, nice beaches. I spent 3 days there, wish I had spent more and looking forward to going back. Definitely one of the highlights of the trip, don't miss it if possible.

Zagreb is nice as well, but 1 day to check the city is enough. The lakes in Plitvice are pretty awesome. Zadar is a nice beach town as well.

I did Venice as well, but by car, so I don't know how much it helps you. I love Italy, I feel very "eh" about Venice.

Unless you are going to an island or two in between, I'd take the 4 hour bus versus the 7+ hour ferry from Dubrovnik to Split.

The bus times don't really allow for a day trip to Kotor (I assume your destination in Montenegro). Check to see if they have added buses since I was there:

Another day is Split is probably a good idea as said above but although Dubrovnik is very nice, it is also very touristy. There is lots of history but also it is a bit of a tourist trap so unless you planned on doing excursions for some of the days or just relaxing then I would think 2 days would be enough. From my time there I though Plitvice was very good (its famous I know) so you should definitely go there. There are buses from all the main cities to it. But I thought the best part of Croatia was the Istia Peninsula. The scenery is spectacular and the villages and towns are full of character and history. They are all very nice so I would definitely spend some time there relaxing and enjoying that area.
I cant help you with your trip to Venice though. From my time there I wrote about what I found good in the various places from my own experience including details, costs etc that may be of help to you including what I mentioned above
