Hi
I have just been online looking at rail info to get back to London (have been travelling 2 months in east europe and before that 7 mnths in Africa so money very low) and the cheapest I could find was train to Venice then Paris then London for 235 pound
Any suggestions on how to get there cheaper than that-cheap bus companies etc? Could even leave from Italy or Slovenia if cheaper options from there
Thanx
PS Any suggestions for un-touritsty (and cheap!) spots in Croatia would be appreciated 2 as wasn`t planning on coming this far

Look for a discount airfare at www.whichbudget.com. It sounds like you are intending to travel soon, though, so that might not be a perfect option -- usually to get the super cheap flights, you need to plan well in advance. Still, I'd search around for flights from Croatia, Slovenia and Italy and see if you can get lucky.
Otherwise, you'll probably find a direct bus from Zagreb for a lot cheaper than the train fare you quoted. Google the Zagreb bus station.

Maybe a ferry from Dubrovnik/Split to Italy and a budget flight from Brindisi or Bari to the UK. Or if you have time, hitch-hike it in a few days.

You don't mention whether you need to travel right away - that could make a crucial difference. The figure of 235 pounds (almost 300 euro) seems rather high for rail travel. For example I recently bought tickets all the way from Ireland to Croatia for less than 200 euro (of which 44 euro was to get from Dublin to London). However that was by booking some advance-purchase deals which you may not be able to do depending on when you travel.
I just had quick look at your route and found
Zagreb-Munich for 88 euro through www.bahn.co.uk
Munich-Brussels 39 euro also through www.bahn.co.uk
Brussels-London 55 euro through www.eurostar.com
Total 182 euro or 145 pounds sterling.
I'm no rail fares expert and I didn't spend long on it so there may be cheaper ways - unfortunately they do take quite a bit of figuring out and usually a bit of flexibility.
The Zagreb bus station website http://www.akz.hr/ suggests a fare of 790 kuna (about 110 euro) as far as Paris.

You could also try what I did when I was in Egypt and needed a super-cheap ticket to Berlin.
Walk into package-tourist hotels and ask if there are any groups from the UK staying there. If so, ask for the rep's phone number. Call the rep and explain that you are looking for a one-way fare to the UK, and you'd like to join in with their group flight going home.
I had to buy my ticket out of a caravan on a building site - but it was a hundred ten dollars, including taxes, from egypt to berlin, so I didn't complain!

Thanks for all your help! Will look into all these options. Will prob head to London in about 2 wks (that about all the time my money left will allow!)

Ryan air fly from venice treviso to stanstead for very cheap, and there are buses from Croatia to Trieste (near Venice), look at bus company SAF! hope that helps! I'm going from Croatia to London next week by this route, I'm hoping it costs well under £100!

ONLY when in ZAG/or at least Hrvatska-can buy train single XZAG-to MUC for 29€/if lucky-that applies to all quotes of alan. Also BRU-LON often for 40€/single-on b-rail.be.
OR pay normally to Milano/venezia-on trenitlaia can again only with luckhelp of sunmoon get seated single to paris for 29/39€.
You dont know your age-why not quote-the 5 in 10 days InterRail for youth (Brit or not??) may also be of help-brings you till UK-port.
the really cheap flites are only IN the EU-you Brits should get used to that. After mid/late sept all holiday-charter flights from Hrvatska have effectively ceased.
