Bok ;-) Kako ste?
I am planning a self-organised trip Montenegro-Croatia.
I will arrive in Podgorica/Montenegro Thursday 29 Aug and fly back from Pula/Croatia Monday 09 sept.2013
After 5 days in Montenegro, my plan is to move from Kotor/Budva to Croatia
and travel for 6 days between Dubrovnik and Pula.
Do you have any suggestions which places to visit, preferably with limited transport time between them
so really the not to be missed sites near the coastline?

My interests are:
museums & culture/ contemporary & classic arts/overwhelming nature & hiking/nice old towns
so I am not a beach person, but an active traveller; I don't mind to visit smaller places as well in half a day.

My 2nd question is about transport:
Are there easy-to-use-websites with timetables and fares for trains and buses,
to connect me between the recommended places?

Buses, though not the only means of transportation, there are ships), would be the fastest and most frequent way of traveling along the coast given the limited amount of time you have to cover the distance from Montenegro to Pula.

You will hardly see anything much but get a general impression of the land.

For bus schedules check: http://www.autobusni-kolodvor.com/

Hey vagoja. I literally just got back from a trip to Montenegro (and other parts of Europe). Be prepared for Budva - the old town and coastline there is pretty but it is VERY busy with Serbian and Russian tourists. Good fun if you're in the mood for a bit of a party, but if you're more into your nature and hiking (which I get the sense you are) then one of the best things I can recommend is going up to the Lovcen National park which sits essentially above Kotor.
There are buses that go up the road there, though personally we found it easier to rent a car. The drive is so amazing that it's well worth it. Once up in the National Park the views are incredible. In our LP books it mentions it's worth a day trip but I'd say spend a night up there if possible. There's a few little B&Bs in and around the tiny little village of Njegusi. I know you don't have heaps of time but the views are so breathtaking that it's really worth it. Plus, the people up there are lovely :)

Good luck!

P.S. In regards to your second question about the bus timetables (not really trains in Montenegro along coast) I didn't come across any really definitive website. I mainly spoke to my local hosts from the places I was renting from Air bnb or just used our rental car.

When in Croatia be sure to see the coastal towns. All are beautiful. Dubrovnik with the walls and very rich in cultural heritage, Split and Diocletian's Palace, a beautiful cathedral of Sibenik and Zadar the old Roman and old Croatian core. Walking and you'll see the most, look up and search decorations on the walls, windows, balconies and portals. Everything in these cities is made of stone. While you're in those cities you can visit galleries and archaeological museums, and you get up to the nearby national parks. Everything is more or less close..ooo and Trogir, Hvar, Korčula, Np Krka, Np Plitvice etc. etc

@johngrantley can you recommend any B&Bs in Njegusi? Would we need to book in advance (going to be there at the beginning of September) or is it possible to find something when there?

Thanks!

@ania2511 sure thing. I'd personally recommend a place on the mountain looking out at the bay called Nevjesta Jadrana. the restaurant is excellent. It's small but has it's charm. I don't have a website for them (don't even think they have one!) but try these two phone numbers: 38269022111 or 38268701042. I didn't stay here but ate here two nights in a row. The food was excellent and the people were really nice. The setting is great too, so I can only assume the rooms would be small but great. Good luck :)
