Hello, planning a last minute trip to Croatia arriving this Saturday June 1st at 2pm. Rented a car pick up next Monday. Drop off in Zagreb on June 10th. fly home on June 11th. did some homework on trip. I will take the airport bus to dubrovnik five euros . It is only my husband and I traveling, fit 50 year olds. I am thinking of just renting a place to stay when we get to dubrovnik. Is this sensible n can we find a room with a view this way, or should i book online now? Thinking of spending two maybe 3 nites in dubrovnik b4 heading northwards. Split, Hvar, zabar trogir, plitces lakes all in my sights. We are not beach or party lovers. Love scenery food history n culture. Any suggestions will be appreciated.budget for rooms between 70 to 100 euros, lower preferred.

I would definitely recommend Apartments & rooms Stella in Dubrovnik. However it is totally booked like many other great accommodations, so the remaining, but also very good option would be, for example, Hostel & Rooms Ana in the old town. You can book the rooms through Hostelworld or Agoda or probably through several other websites.

I strongly recommend that all Dubrovnik visitors book at least the first night online in advance. It is highly popular destination, so all the best and high quality accommodations get booked well in advance.

Practically all other locations do not require bookings in advance in the period of your sojourn in Croatia, so it is highly probable to find very attractive accommodations upon arrival.

As far as your route through Croatia is concerned I have one suggestion. I can see that you intend to visit Split and Hvar after Dubrovnik. Well, having a rented car it is the best option to travel from Dubrovnik to the place called Drvenik and from Drvenik by ferry to the island of Hvar. Here is the schedule of the ferries on the route Drvenik - Sućuraj (island of Hvar): http://www.jadrolinija.hr/pdfs/632.ljeto.2013.e.pdf . Here is the location of Drvenik: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=43.154444,17.248056&q=loc:43.154444,17.248056&hl=en&t=m&z=11 . Using Drvenik as your starting point to Hvar island you will save in terms of petrol and time and you will also be in position to drive full length of the island and to see every aspect that the island offers to its visitors having in mind growing number of wineries and great vistas along the way from Sućuraj to Hvar town.

To depart from Hvar island you will use Stari Grad (small town on Hvar island) to reach Split. Here is the schedule: http://www.jadrolinija.hr/pdfs/635.2013.ljeto.e.pdf . It is very simple to accomplish your trip. Just plan a bit ahead with the emphasize on the advance booking of the accommodation in Dubrovnik and everything will be just fine after that.

Enjoy your vacations.

Thank you so much for your reply. I was trying to figure out how to get to Hvar with a car. And now I know. Wish I had more time, but there is always next year.
