Diving & Snorkelling

Am heading to Sri Lanka in december or early january.
How is the diving there ? Can you recommend a good diving centre with good material ?
I dont want to carry a supplementary backpack with my dive gear !

Just wondering if I can get some suggestions for possible diving locations that would include: relatively cheap airfare from the USA (<$700? - we're hoping for post-Christmas sales), cheap dives ($25-40 per tank), and great diving in January/February. Am I looking for the impossible?? To give you an idea about me, here is how I would sum up some of my past dive destinations:

Bunaken, Indonesia: $1500 plane ticket, $25 per dive, fantastic diving
Florida Keys, USA: $400 plane ticket, $75…

Hi. I'm a newbie to scuba. Doing pool & theory in UK next month then hope to pop (!) down to Mada on a referral in Feb with Frontier to do the open water element on a marine conservation trip. Apparently, Frontier will train to Adv. Open Water. Has anyone ever had any experience of diving in Madagascar or of Frontier? I'm not a gap year student (bit of a giveaway on the name I suppose!) and only going for a couple of weeks so want to make most of my time there.

Can someone tell me----do these 4 day liveaboard trips to the Similans allow you any time to stick your toes in the sand on those beautiful islands? I'm really excited to see what's under the water, but it would be great to get some play time on the ground, as well!

hi, what's it like in Dahab in October? That's my first diving trip to Red Sea and i'm just wondering if 5mm shorty is good enough? Any nasty thermoclines there? I'm not really sensitive to cold as i dive on regular basis in Irish waters.

Just wondering if anyone is diving over on the west coast of thailand now, and what the diving conditions are like.. I'm on koh tao at the moment and thinking about going over for a few days diving, but don't really want a wasted trip if there aren't many boats going out because of the weather. Would love to get on a liveaboard so if anyone knows of any companies that have started running trips already that would be great too!

The forced marriage of snorkel and dive is the same as having a thread heading for people who are "petrol-heads" (mad keen about fast cars) and adding the word 'pushbike' to the heading.

Please could anyone advise about shore snorkel for adult or child weak swimmer in October?Beach entry with some coral close to shore would be perfect. Is it possible?

Could someone tell me which beach in Mauritius is best for snorkeling?
And does anyone know a good divecenter in Mauritius?
Is the diving okay or will we be disappointed?
Names of good divesites are very welcome.
I heard there is a place called shark pit... someone been there?
