Do divemasters actually earn anything or is it more of chance to gain experience and reach instructor level?
Do instructors earn a living wage or does it only just cover the beer money?
Is it a viable career, with work being available most of the time or is the only way to make money to open a diveshop yourself and train up the next set of aspirational DM's?
It's just that there seems a lot of focus from diveshops towards training divemasters (you take one course, they push the next one..)…

Due to poor planning and a footnote in my work contract, I can't get away until October. My boyfriend and I are looking to go somewhere for a week or ten days, and am looking for the following things from my destination:
*SUN
*Flight time of no more than 5 hours
*Pine forests
*Clean beaches
*Good for walking, cycling and kayaking/snorkelling
*Great food
*NO RED TOPS OR 'FAMILY' RESORTS
Aside from that, I'm really open minded. Just want to get away somewhere thats hot, and good to explore…
How much would a one day excursion cost for snorkeling in the Maldives. And what would it include. We would probably have our own equipment. Do you only book through your resort of tour operator or can you book private tours as well. (in Zanzibar it was safe if people approach you on the beach and offer you dive excursions for far less than the hotel price)

I'm a rescue diver, recently moved to Sydney and plan to do a liveabouard trip to Great Barrier Reef for the first time. Want to do a 7-day trip ideally.
I want a bit more luxury so I've identified Spirit of Freedom and Mike Ball, over more budget providers like TAKA.
Can anybody give me any ideas on their personal experience with these providers?

i am planning a trip for november and i would like to find a place, not too crowdy, where it is possible to do both windsurf and diving, and if possible not too expanssive a place.

Started a discussion among my diving friends about Nitrox and going deeper than 35 meters.
Here you can dive on Nitrox to 40 or 45 meters, to visit the japanese wreck.
Blue Marlin does a 1 hour Nitrox introduction and you can go down for 60 dollars, so you do not even need a course...
Other schools say it is too dangerous and just take divemasters down to the wreck...
Does not sound all to professional does it?

I need some advice on the best dive sites on the West Coast of Thailand.
We are planning on visiting Phuket, Koh Lipe, Koh Lanta & possibly Koh Jum. My boyfriend dives but I don't so some diving/snokling might be good too!
I have heard the Similan Islands but would like some more ideas.

I am looking at doing a divemaster course in thailand in dec/jan and am really undecided about which coast to go to. They both read like excellent sites but I wondered if one would be better over the other since I would be doing extensive diving in that area. e.g. Phuket has some great wrecks, Koh Tao the whale sharks in jan/feb. decisions, decisions...
