I have always found members of this forum to be extremely helpful and informative so here goes with late 2010 holiday questions!

Looking to go on holiday in the first two weeks of Oct (non moveable) for 2 weeks and main priorities are sun, great snorkeling from the beach (no need for boat trips) and great diving also (im fairly inexperienced and other half wants to learn to dive).Nice beach is preferable as don't like sitting by the pool between snorkels / dives.

Budget is fairly low…

Wanna do a full open Water certification course in Thailand (cheapest) and then go and dive around Similan islands. Shall be arriving in Bangkok and can tour thailand for sometime before going to Similan. Also, are they affordable in terms of staying and diving? Is it better to rent equipment or buy a used one somewhere in Thailand and sell it later (or if its a steal....then take back home)! (Any recommendations for places to buy used ones)

I am a big snorkelhead and finally have open window due to laziness, committments and seasonal monsoon to do something in Perentians or Indonesia.

My standard is Mu Ko Surin, Thailand. Beautiful reef, fish and not too deep. I can free dive to about 10-15m. Shallow reefs are all important as are qty of fishies. Camping is a plus.

I have six weeks and leaning toward Indo but ticket BKK-DPS is about B8000+ RT.

Can anyone give me the hotspots off of Flores and Banda islands as well as any other…

Can I get some experience from people who have dived in Vietnam - Nha Trang before?

I saw some pictures and they look pretty nice but asked a friend who came back from there, she commented that there's nothing much to see. Just the very usual marine life. No sharks, rays or turtles... To me, its fine, since I am just there to do my courses but it would be a bonus if the visibility is good and marine life is abundant.

Is there anyone who would like to share information on diving in Puertorico. I have read that you can do shore diving; is it true? I've been diving in Bonaire, and there are hotels that have three tanks included in the room price. Is there anything similar in Puertorico? What would be the prices anyway?
I have read that there are really a lot of beautiful diving site, of all kinds and depths. Any suggestion in particular?
