Heading down to Zanzibar in November for 6 days and looking to do some diving. I was wondering if it is better to book in advance or if you would have better luck getting a deal if you just showed up on arrival. I'm hoping to stick to a pretty low budget if possible. Any suggestions appreciated.

I think the only places where you are likley to get any kind of deals would be packages at some resorts (diving and accomodation, booked in advance), but these places are usually not the budget options anyway. Other than that it won't make a difference whether you book in advance or on the spot, you certainly won't get "deals" on the spot and diving in Zanzibar is not the cheapest.
In Stonetown, you can stay pretty cheaply at a guesthouse and dive with one of the two operators in town (One Ocean and Bahari, the latter being a tiny bit cheaper, maybe). One of the best dive shops on the island is ScubaDo in Kendwa (northern beaches), where the diving gets cheaper the more dives you do (but you don't have to decide beforehand how many dives you plan to do). Accomodation and food on the beaches is a bit more expensive than in town.
