Zanzibar

Interest forums / Diving & Snorkelling

Dear all,

I am planning to go to Zanzibar for a week of diving. Does anyone have any recommendations for good dive sites to visit, a good dive centre and a nice place to stay close to a diving centre?
I am mostly interested in reef diving and trying out my new UW camera.
I tend to get sea sick rather easily, so it would be great if someone could give me an indication of the roughness of the sea on the way to most dive sites (short and medium range).

Thanks in advance,
Cheers, Len

Hi Len
we stayed at a marvellous nice little place - the Shooting Star Lodge on the east coast/Kiwengwa - www.shootingstarlodge.com - the kitchen was also very good.

We found it in the Lonely Planet Guide and it was a good recommendation. In the neighbourhood are bigger hotels with diving centers.
Elly the owner of the lodge is very helpful and arranges diving activities.
nice greeting from Vienna

Diving at Mnemba Atoll is quite nice, and there were also some nice sites accessible from Stone Town. Sea conditions were smooth, and boat rides quite short - 30 mins or so. I used One Ocean Dive Centre. No complaints, but this was about 5 years ago and things do change.
