No 1 on my list is at the Big Drop Off, Palau, followed by any of the other spots in Palau - the German Channel is an amazing drift snorkel, Jellyfish Lake was out of this world, the coral at The Cemetary was beautiful and watching the mandarin fish really cool! Next best area for us was the Great Barrier Reef, Australia and then Apo Island and Dauin(from the beach) in the Philippines. We plan a trip to Indonesia in 2010 where we have read that the snorkeling is also fantastic so my list of favorites may change.
I would say Indonesia has some beautiful and amazing site for diving and snorkeling.
No. 1 Bunaken - A Marine Paradise On Earth
No. 2 Mentawai Islands - The Hidden Surfing Paradise
No. 3 Togean Islands - Hidden Gems Islands in Indonesia
Other places like Bali and Lombok also have some great site for diving and snorkling.

...the murky waters of Donsol Beach...Philippines...
gobs of whalesharks!
last year we spent 8 days there

Jan, Feb and Mar are top months for sightings

we saw 7 on Dec 1 - pretty cool
a very interesting side trip would be a run up to Mt Mayon (around 46 k distant by road ) and watch the lava run down the slopes at night
heading there tomorrow to spend a few days and bring in the new year watching the mountain
cheers

Hi newfie43 or other people in the know about Palau snorkeling:
Who did you tour with to get to these places? I am very vague answers from Sam's as to snorkeling locations. Neco seem willing but wants party of 4 and $50 to get the Big Drop Off. (Is it worth it?)
Who did you use?
Thanks!
