kia orana oceangirl74,

have you thought about doing your digital underwater speciality? padi does have a really good course book which comes with the course... but you just might be able to buy it as normal diver as well...

cheers

No, I hadn't thought of that, this would be a gift for someone. I have seen a few books, but didn't know which ones were better then others!

maybe the course is an option... it's a lot of fun.. but if not you can go to any dive centre who sells padi materials... ask for the digital underwater photography.
i think it's a good one :-)

Hello, friend! Long time!

As for the u/w photo stuff, you know that I teach the PADI course, so I am very familiar with the manual. It isn't bad, but it is quite limited. I go beyond the information in it when I teach my photo students.

I have found these slim volumes to be quite useful, without becoming terribly technical:
An Essential Guide to Digital Underwater Photography and An Advanced Guide to Digital Underwater Photography both by Michael Aw.

A Diver's Guide to The Art of Underwater Photography is one of the best selling uderwater photography books.
Also, photography.pro is a great resource for the best photography books, have a look at underwater photography books section.

Hi oceangirl74,

What a great present for your friend! I recommend considering to pick up a copy of 'The Underwater Photographer- Digital and Traditional Techniques'. It's a very comprehensive paperback style book with plenty of pictures and I found it very useful myself. The author Martin Edge is a well seasoned underwater photographer and knows his stuff- but it's still easy to read and understand so I think this would be your best bet!

Hope this helps. All the best for the holidays ;)
