Hi,
I'm going on my honeymoon from the UK at the beginning of June next year, and I'd really appreciate some help deciding where. We love snorkelling, so somewhere that is good for this would be nice...and seeing as it's our honeymoon, we'd like luxurious accomodation to be available. Also, we don't want to fly for longer than about 16 hours, so places like Hawaii are too far. We're up for seeing some interesting wildlife and doing other fun active stuff too if that's available, but isn't essential.

Initially we were thinking of the Thai islands, Costa Rica or Maldives, but I understand it's rainy season in all these places. Any suggestions?

Thanks. x

I can thoroughly recommend Kota Kinabalu in the Malaysian state of Sabah (Borneo) as there are superb hotels there and we personally prefer Shangri-La Tanjung Aru and have been there 12-15 times now and going back again next February.
The hotel, staff, grounds and food are excellent and have yet to find a better hotel in 40+ years of travel.

There is pretty good snorkelling at the nearby islands of the marine park abaout 10 mins away and boats run there every hour from the hotel marina and also public boats from the nearby town.

We spend a good portion of our 2 week stay in hammocks(our own) on the islands!

Plenty of wildlife in the area too including of course Oran Utangs.

You can stop off on the way out or way back at Kuala Lumpur to 'shop till you drop'.

KK is also good for shopping and we stock up on clothes and shoes each visit.

Congratulations in advance, the Gulf of thailand (Samui/Tao etc.) are in good weather at that time, although never say never with the tropics (it is the phuket side that is in rainy season although June was lovely when I went). Samui hasn't great snorkelling but fantastic trips to marine park and Koh Tao about 1 to 1 1/2 hours by speed boat or catamaran. It is a lovely plance to spend your honeymoon you will be treated well and enjoy the atmosphere of being together somewhere new, exciting and relaxing. Have a lovely time wherever you decide to go.

Thanks for those suggestions, that's great!
I've had a look at Sabah now, and taken a second look at Koh Samui, and am now trying to decide between Samui and Langkawi (does anyone knows whether theres any snorkelling a short boat trip away from Langkawi?)

Never thought of Zanzibar - I'll take a look at that.

Cheers ; )

16 hour max may cut it close for some of the locations (at least for some flights). I have not been to Zanzibar, but have heard it is very interesting. I do not know if the snorkeling compares with the other suggested places. If the flying time works out for you (flying to Dar es Salaam), it would have the advantage of also allowing you to add a wildlife viewing trip to Ngorongoro Crater or other game reserve (budget and time permitting, of course).
