My partner and I want to go on a ten day snorkelling holiday in late April into early May. We're based in the UK and are looking for suggestions for a great snorkelling holiday location. We have already snorkelled in the Red Sea and St Lucia, so would like somewhere different from those two places. The reef is the main thing - accommodation etc takes second seat! Any suggestions? Thanks.

We have just returned from a vacation in Jibacoa, Cuba and really enjoyed the snorkeling off the beach there. There is a fairly large reef area to explore with very nice coral and plenty of fish life - we saw lion fish for the first time. Jibacoa is halfway between Varadero and Havana and is in a rural area. There are two all-inclusives on the beach as well as campgrounds if you prefer that. If you check out the forums at tripadvisor.com you will find a number of posters from the UK who have visited this area as there are package deals available from the UK which would be ideal for a 10 day trip. If you want to go farther afield I can also highly recommend Palau - the snorkeling here is absolutely amazing, unfortunately it is expensive to get to. In order to access the best spots you will have to do trips out to the reef. These trips are also quite expensive but worth the expense and effort.

You could do a lot worse than a trip to ether Indonesia or the Philippines. Between them, they have over 20,000 islands to choose from. It makes choosing the right spot a bit bewildering, but the snorkelling opportunities are fantastic.

Some off the cuff ideas to get you started, depending on how remote you wish to go, would be Banda Islands, Gilis, Bunaken or Pulau Weh in Indonesia or maybe Puerto Galera, Moalboal, Bohol or El Nido in Philippines. You can find details in all of them in our dive guide to help you. I would recommend somewhere with shallow colourful reefs and either shore diving or short boat journeys.

Even further afield, Ningaloo in West Australia also has some great shallow reefs. Coral Bay would be a great base there.

My Husband and I are in almost the exact same position.
We're looking @ Palau.

Have you come to any conclusions/decisions? I'd be curious as to what you decided on and why.
