We're planning to spend a week or so in March at one of the beaches east of Galle as part of a longer Sri Lanka trip. We'd appreciate opinions from people with snorkeling experience in other locations as to what quality of fish, coral and water to expect for off-the-beach snorkeling at places like Unawatuna and Mirissa. For comparison, we've snorkeled in the Hawaiian Islands, Fiji, many areas of Indonesia, New Zealand, British Columbia, Thailand, Malaysia, Bonaire, and the Red Sea. Any tips and insights would be very welcome.

Thanks.

I got in a few dives at Unawatuna a few years ago, not all that impressed. I have been diving in all the places you have been, except for BC, I would but Sri Lanka at the bottom of the list as far as diving goes, so snorkelling would probably be the same.
