I am looking to go to Roatan in August and am wanting some help with choosing a dive resort to stay at. I would like something close to town, with good shore diving, and a decent price. Any help will be appreciated!!

Hey - don't know if this will be of any help - but most divers go to the area known as the West End - at the west end of the island - there's a strip there with accommodation & the town & at least a dozen dive shops - they seem reasonably priced - they have to be because there's so many ops to chose from - & there's bars & plenty to eat.
Wasn't sure if by dive resort you wanted a top end number that costs more - I think there are one or two - but most of the action is at the West End
I was only there a couple of days - can't remember which op I dived with - didn't get a stamp in my log - but it's not the most demanding diving - so you should be ok with anyone who's been in business for a few years there.

Though not inexpensive and limited shore diving Anthony's Key Resort will take divers out 3 times a day mostly on 2 tank dives as well as 1 or 2 night dives in the week. The catch is it is a resort with meals that are fairly good (not many children at resort) and it is a 5-8 minute taxi ride from West End. But, the convenience of diving could not be better and 1/2 the units have A/C and are more money but in August nights can be 80+ with humidity the same. Beware the mosquitos in Honduras are some of the most numerous and hungry I have ever encountered so I use 100% DEET all over all the time.

i dived with Pura Vida. Not the fastest boats, but it seemed that most of the boats in West End were about the same. Reef Gliders also seemed like a good shop. Also, i stayed at Posada las Orquideas about ten minutes up the road, with very affordable, large clean rooms with a balcony overlooking the bay. The "resorts" are mostly located at West Bay Beach, and the prices will be much higher.
On the advice of some members here, I dived with West End Divers. They were very attentive. Their shop is right across from their dock so loading/unloading the boat was a snap. They have Nitrox, rinse tanks on the dock, friendly staff, good boat, etc. I'd dive with them again.

I should add Anthony's Key with 3 meals and basic tips and tax in a cabin with A/C is probably $1300/wk double occupancy including all 3 dives and or snorkeling.Actually $200 with meals, dives and nice room with A/C is not too bad and as said above for a little excitment West End is a 5-10 minute taxi away.

I stayed at the Inn of Last Resort, 15' out of town. Its all inclusive (3+ dives/day, food and decent rooms) but not pricey ($1100/ week sgl; 900 dbl).
Good competent diving with many return clients who are frequent divers (no kids spotted, not sure if thats rules or the clientele), but not a young persons party place

Thanks everyone for your replies. Very helpful information! I have decided to go with a dive resort on west bay beach, bananarama. We'll see how it goes!

Might be too late but I also wanted to mention a non-west end (great shore diving):
