I am planning on heading to the Phillippines for 4 - 5 weeks from the start of Jan.
I am thinking of heading to Siargao to learn to surf ("crowd 9" as the LP states is the best place to go)
&
Probably head to Boracy to dive after.
Ive got nothing booked apart from a one way ticket to Bangkok on Sunday, and ill probabaly head to out to the phiiles a week after that, so if anyones been out to the Phillies to surf / dive / or generally, any pointers would be appreciated!

Yes, Siargao is good place to go for surfing but check the dates for the surf season there.
For diving Boracay is OK but there are much better places, Apo Island, Panglao, Malapascua, Moalboal and many more.
I'll be there in Feb and have been doing some research. I haven't been to these places I'm recommending but they are on my list.
If your learning to surf I would recommend La Union area. The most consistent time there is October to March.
For diving Moaboal area and there is a cheap place to stay called Moaboal backpacker lodge(they have a website). I'll be taking a freediving course in that area.
boracay is very crowded right now. also boracay is not regarded as a top dive spot
last june i got my open water diving certificate in the philippines. alona beach, panglao, bohol has many dive shops/schools and is highly regarded due to its proximity to the balicasag marine sanctuary.
For learning to dive I would reccomend places with easy shore acces as thats where you will probably learn (unless they have a swimming pool) so yes Alona Beach, Moalboal, PG, Malapascua, Dauin etc..
