I would like to know how much the prices vary between learning to dive in Malaysia and Thailand? I have heard that Koh Tao in Thailand is the cheapest place in the world to get your PADI?
We will be doing the course in July/August and want to know the approx difference in prices between Thai and Malaysia courses, and which will be best at this time of year? Looking for cheapest/best deal, whilst not skimping on safety!

I have lived in Thailand on Koh Tao for 2 years and now I am in Nha Trang Viet Nam. I can tell you first hand that its cheaper to get your PADI in Viet Nam and the diving is much better in Nha Trang than Koh Tao. I know you are looking into Malaysia and I have dove there as well. It depends where there you go. Borneo is good or at least better than Thailand unless you go to the east coast. I would do Malaysia from your choices. Go to [http://www.PADI.com] for a list of all PADI dive shops there and make your choice.
If you want to dive in Thailand do not go to the gulf and dive those islands the diving is so so at best. The east coast of Thailand is much better.
