My husband and I are looking for places to go end of April/beginning of May.
We're both divers, but have recently moved over to snorkling and free diving. We prefer it to the confinds of diving.

Regardless were trying to fnd some nice places to free dive. Given that were new to this world we can't go that deep or for that long.

Any reccommendations for great snorkling spots? We've been to Belize, Mexico, Honduras and Egypt. I'm thinking somewhere in Fiji or maybe Palau? I also see alot of talk about Indo, but it's mostly in regards to diving....which we don't want to do.

Any suggestions?

On Koh Tao I can highly recommend Apnea Total They're very porfessional and all the people that I know that took courses there where very happy and impressed by them.

I do not see why you should not have a great time freediving in Indonesia. Look up the Gili Islands between Lombok and Bali. Not too deep diving, you could rent a fishingboat for the day and snorkel/freedive all over the place. A lot of the fishermen know where the good snorkelling places are, and my guess (not being a freediver, mind you!) would be that these same places are really good for freediving also. Or the Tulamben wrech (north Bali). Not too deep, beautiful, close to the beach so you could just walk out there, snorkel a bit and freedive... Of Fiji and Palau I sadly know nothing :-) !

Quite a few years ago I snorkeled/ free dove off some islands off the south west coast of Thailand. I was staying on Koh Muk and I think the island we went to is Koh Ngai. It had some of the shallowest coral I"ve ever seen, and also very very healthy, and incredible visibility. And if you can get down to it a cool wall.It was really fantastic. I was with some other free divers who could neutral buoyance and they could go to 10 meters and just hover. ( I have to fight to get down 2 meters ) That experience is what motivated me to get my c-card ( I love diving ) but for free diving I would definately look into there.
