'm heading off to Sri Lanka in early April and want to get a day or two of diving in. I understand that the best place this time of year is in the south.
Does anybody have any specific recommendation as to a dive area/dive shop?
Would appreciate any advice

Hi,
I just dived with Seahorse diving in UNawatuna this weekend. One dive was €25 and it was the Tango Wreck. Not world class, but a nice little dive. I think Unawatuna is amazing as a location, and you could do a couple of days of dives I would imagine. Nothing on Egypt, but still worth €25 for a dive (equipment included).

You can dive in Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa, Bentota, Colombo and Negombo on the west coast. Some of the best diving is actually found in Colombo. Offshore visibility is quite good and some of the wrecks off Colombo are world class. West coast season will end around mid April. Dive sites are mostly wrecks and rocky reefs.
East coast can be dived from March to October and there is an operator at Nilaveli Beach Hotel in Trincomalee. Pgein Island off Nnilaveli has great shallow diving with good hard coral gardens.
