I'm think of taking a diving course in Dahab but wouldn't be able to do it til August. Also,I'll be travelling alone. Is August an ok time to take a course? This would be my first experience with diving, i'm excited but nervous!!!! Any suggestions about who to go with? I've heard good things about Penguin...

August is going to be HOT and during the course you will not spend the entire time in the water. BUt if you think you can bear the heat, it's a good time with good diving conditions.
Penguin are a good shop, have dived with them many times. But unless you are really pressed for time, there is no need to arrange anything in advance. You could just arrive in Dahab and shop around a bit and then go with a shop, or even more importantly, an instructor that you feel comfortable with.

I did my Divemaster in August in Dahab - it is, as Stefo says, raosting,(often mid to late 40's) but I found that after a couple of days I got used to it and didn't really notice. I personally did my Advanced, Rescue and Divemaster courses over the space of a few years with Fantasea Divers based now, I believe, out of the Coral Coast hotel - they were always very good, reliable and professional.

August in Dahab is hot, but certainly not unbearable. We dived with Fantasea a few years ago and thought they seemed very friendly and professional. If you want to find out prices etc in advance, I think they have a website, but personally I would wait until you get there and ask the different companies about group sizes etc. If you can speak to the instructor you can see who you feel most comfortable with.

Hi. I have been to Dahab last October and put together a rather detailed trip report where you may find some tips for your stay - if interested check it out at my site .
Enjoy your trip.
