I'm thinking in going to Coron island in Philipines. I`ve listened that the wreck diving there is as exciting as the Tuck BAy one in Polinesia. Have you ever been there? Is it so interesting? Is ti safe (for diving and for travelling)? Any recomendation?
Thanks a lot?

Pd: Maybe I can answer your diving questions in Costa Brava (Spain).

Hmmm... I particularly enjoyed my time in Coron. I've never been to Tuck Bay, but the wreck dives in Coron were beautiful. I would agree that visibility can be tricky, but that's only going down to the wrecks. Once there, moving in and around the wrecks is really nice. Then there's also the Barracuda lake which is a totally different diving experience :)

I would recommend that you dive with Discovery Divers. The staff and equipment are all really good, and they treat you well. Oddly enough, I've gone diving with others who've tried Sea Dive, and somehow they all feel like the dive staff are not as friendly (to say the least) to their guests.

From Coron you can head to El Nido or Cuyo Island or Calauit Island for other things to see and do. Admittedly, there's really nothing much else within Coron except a few hills you can trek or the hot springs that you can visit. But it's simplicity is what makes me like the place.

You can stay in Coron town and still join the dive trips. There are several lodging options there. I stayed one night in Michaelangelo (big room for a good price, but quite far from the town center... has great Italian food, though!), and then moved to stay at the Discovery Divers Resort just coz I liked the place more when I saw it :) They're on a separate island, so you're far from the local karaoke bars. You'll still get to access town via their boat taxi that shuttles guests to and from the resort for a minimal fee, no matter what time.

Lemme know if you'd like more information about Coron. I'd be happy to help out :)

Hola!
I am also from Spain and I liked Coron a lot the wrecks are excellent and less than an hour boat ride from coron, but there is not much more to see apart from relaxing, the town has nothing interesting apart from excellent seafood and the beaches are not good (El Nido is much better)
We stayed in a small resort on the south part of the peninsula where coron is, it was a 20min. boat ride but only one km south by road from coron, it is betterr to go by boat.it is easy to know because there is an old hydroplane stranded on the beach The place is very good and cheap and the instructor I had was good, you have to be careful that they do not charge you for extra dives or services, the manager was from Spain or had lived there and he was very helpful
diving in the wrecks is very safe if you don,t get nervous and the country is really safe and the people very nice
if you need information in spanish o want to ask me personallydo not hesitate to contact me

PS The only danger is approaching the pearl farms without asking, you can get shot

adios y buen viaje!
