Hey there!
I'm going to the Philippines and I'd like to dive for the first time in my life. Do you know any good place to start? any cheap one? any courses and how much would it cost and for how long the course take?
Thanks in advance!

Hi!
Right now the weather's much more stable over at Puerto Galera, but Anilao can also be workable despite the southwestern monsoon winds :) Diving should be good and rates are reasonable. You can also try Bohol :) Lemme know if you have more questions. When do you plan to come over? I have a great instructor to recommend :) You can join us in our dives, too!
Just holler :)

Hey thanks for your answer! I'll be in the Philippines from next Friday and stay there for 3 weeks. I'll might head on to Puerto Galera as I arrive. Where are you? Have you got any idea about prices? If it's affordable and ok for my budget I would like to join you yeah.
Let me know..
Thanks again.

Cool :) Dives are usually around $20-25 per dive. Getting certified should be about $250 or so, while an intro dive would cost you around $25-30.
If you're looking to get certified, I highly recommend my instructor. You can check out in either Anilao or Puerto Galera :) Lemme know if you're interested.
We're planning a trip to Subic Bay at the end of August. 1 day for diving and 1 day for the animal safari. You're welcome to join us :) PM me if you have more questions, I'd be happy to help out!
Cheers!

wershwie, could you pm me as well? i've been wanting to try scuba diving for the longest time but since i don't know anybody who can recommend a good instructor, i've been hesistant to try. :) thanks.
Sure, I'd be happy to share more details. PM me what exactly you wanna know so I can reply directly to your questions :) Your profile says you're from around here, so it should be easier to get you started with diving, eh? :)
Hope to hear from you soon!
Hi!
You might wanna check out Boracay Scuba or Fish Eye divers :) They're recommended by my instructor. I asked since I'll be heading off to Boracay in November as well.
Cheers!
Hi!
I have not been in Borocay or Puerto galera, which are very tourisy, but for a beginner I can only reccomeng El Nido, in Palawan Island. It is not very deep and with a lot of coral so you can enjoy shallow diving. I also went to Apo Island and Bohol, but they are to difficult for beginners and to Coron, but it only has wrecks
Plus, in El Nido the beaches and snorkeling are good and the town is a bit filthy but has great evening atmosphere and the seafood is first class
good luck!

Hi Dodi! First off, thanks for choosing the Philippines.
Since you're a beginner, it's best to go to a place where you can dive lots to get lots of practice too.
I recommend Dive&Trek in Batangas.
1- it has a dive-as-much-as-you want rate for the weekend or longer, so you can, er, dive as much as you want
2 - it has a house reef right in front (some say the best house reef in the Anilao area). so there's a rich and important for you - easy - dive site to access & explore without having to pay extra for a boat ride.
3 - it's a friendly, homey place that will be a good base for you to start :) There's even an in-house dog, hehe.
To give you an idea, a dive-all-you-want weekend costs less than USD 80. That includes buffet meals and your room. Of course, it's a separate fee for the PADI course.
Check out their site - http://www.diveandtrek.com/.
Or contact Guada, their booking officer - +63919-3301847. They have an in-house dive instructor.
Or you can contact my dive instructor - Ricky +63917-8188806. He's great! He focuses on skill, rather than theory. Is encouraging, rather than intimidating. Plus, if you become he's student, we'll get to dive together.
He's instructed a lot of foreigners too, he speaks fluent english. So that isn't anything to worry about.
Enjoy your stay here! :)
