Hi,
I’m going to be in Costa Rica from November till December this year working on a conservation project and was thinking that while I’m in Central America I would like to complete my Dive Masters. I did my OW in New Zealand and AOW in Egypt and am now ready to increase my diving qualifications and experience. I’ve heard many good things about the diving on the Bay Island and especially on Utila. If anyone has any recommendations, advice or info that they could give me it would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Elana

I did my DM on utila a few years ago. It was a wonderful experience. From what I recall, the DM course is about 3 months (depending on the dive shop). Make sure you leave enough time to complete the 60 dives (a necessary component). Most dive shops offer discounted accomodation while you complete your course. Also, you will have to complete the rescue course before starting the DM (which is an additional week).
I hope this helps. The Bay Islands are beautiful.....have a fun time

Utila is great to do your DM. Pick a busy dive shop with good gear so you'll be diving every day and get all the dives you need. The diving is not as good as in Egypt but you will do a lot of it.
On the first day on Utila, walk around and feel the vibe at the dive shops, then pick one. Don't just pick the cheapest. You are spending 2 months there.
Have fun,
Boris
