day trips wellington and perth

Hello,

I'm off to Australia and New Zealand for the first time ever but will be working most of the time. I know, I know...... Any day trips from Perth and/or Wellington someone can recommend (these are my two destinations)? I have 3 days off in Perth. Any ideas for that. Diving, nature, rare critters would be great!

rottnest island is a great trip out of perth, there is one dive shop on the island close to where the ferry docks - http://www.rottnestdiving.com.au/ Plus whilst on the island you get to see the very cool quokkas- little marsupials which have become quite rare now but are heaps of them on rottnest! Loved it!
